Review | The Star Shepherd

Title: The Star Shepherd

Author: Dan Haring and MarcyKate Connolly

Genre: fantasy

Release Date: September 10th, 2019

Series: none

When the world first formed, the night was black and filled with dark creatures. The Elders knew their people couldn't survive under such a threat. So they gave their hearts to the sky in the form of stars to keep evil away.

Now, eleven-year-old Kyro is a Star Shepherd like his father. He's spent his life tucked away in the small town of Drenn. There, the family watches the night sky for falling stars―and rushes to rescue them when they do.

When too many stars start falling at once, and disappearing before they can be saved, Kyro's father journeys to report the threat. But when he doesn't return, Kyro, with the help of his best friend, Andra, and his trusty dog, Cypher, must find a way to save the stars before the dark creatures make a terrifying return.

What I Liked

The overall world building is very unique and fun! The myth behind the stars and the star shepherds are wonderfully unique, and the monstrous creatures that hunt the stars are appropriately scary for the audience. Kyro and Andra are a great pair of friends, and Andra's kindness toward the village outsider is such an important lesson. The illustrations are wonderful for kids as they read through this!

What I Would Have Liked to See

Nothing comes to mind. It was a fun MG adventure!

My Favorite!

The cool inventions Kyro's dad has built really make the setting a lot of fun!

Village outsider Kyro rescues fallen stars with his father, but when his father vanishes one night, Kyro must use every ounce of strength within himself to find his father and save the stars--and the world--from the dark threat advancing over them.
